Bowel health is the number one key to good health. The bowel is the main route for toxin elimination and is where many minerals, water and other substances are absorbed. It also plays a very important role in immunity and believe it or not the bowel is classed as the second brain! As well as carrying 1000's of neurochemicals.

Lots of things can go wrong with digestion and bowel health. Some of them are relatively simple to deal with, and others a lot more complex. Over the years, we have seen many people with a diagnosis of ‘IBS' or myriad digestive symptoms which turned out to be caused by one of the factors below.

Food intolerance is the one of the leading causes, followed by lack of proper digestion and candida overgrowth. For constipation we have found that it is usually a fault of the vagus nerve, and recommend a course of Colonic Irrigation.

You should work with your GP/health professional to rule out acute problems such as bacterial infection (say, picked up on holiday), inflammatory bowel disease (eg Crohn’s and colitis) and coeliac disease.

Whatever, you do, if your problem is chronic, you should take steps to eliminate it rather than continue to suffer.

Food Intolerance & Digestive Health Analysis. Acid_001

The Acid Factor

The Stomach does two main jobs: it produces acid to break down your foods and it kills any opportunistic bacteria and bugs like Candida, E Coli, HPylori and the myriad of other well known bacterias.

Most people that we see suffer from too little stomach acid, commonly known as Hypochloridia, and this is a big one most people think that if you suffer from acid reflux/heartburn that you are producing too much acid and head straight for the Gaviscon, or are prescribed Omeprazole, Lansaprazole or the other Proton Pump inhibitors. All this does is stop your body producing acid and stops your stomach digesting food. The end result is bloating, wind, mushy stools and so on.

Ah, but did you know that the symptoms of hypochlorydia can be exactly the same as having too much stomach acid? The main symptoms of Low stomach acid are :

  • Bloating
  • Burping
  • Belching
  • Wind
  • feeling full within half an hour after eating
  • and Changeable bowel habits to top it all

Having the Digestive Test enables us to test for any deficiencies in acid production, but it does not stop there. What we find is that it is the stomach lining in most cases is weak. Think of it like a bag which holds the acid in; sometimes this bag gets worn and thin, thus allowing acid through. So it's not that there is too much acid, but a thinning of the stomach lining and too little acid combined. We offer expert help and have personal experience of how to heal this.

Usually we also find that if you have excessive acid, that HPylori is sometimes indicated and asking your GP for a test to rule this out is something you may want to explore. You know the saying you are what you eat, well we say you are what you absorb!!!

The Digestive Health Test will also test for any deficiencies in B12 and all the B Vitamins, as usually B12 is one of the main culprits in not being able to absorb your foods, causing further digestive upset and lethargy.

Food Intolerance & Digestive Health Analysis. Flatulence_001

Flatulence/Wind

Passing Intestinal Wind is normal, but normal does not mean worry free. Even the average amount of wind can cause discomfort for some people and in others the frequency and odour are much greater, and tells us things are not as they should be. Usually Odorous wind is a sign the bowel is fermenting and there is too much bad bacteria in the colon. If your stools are very smelly then again that is a sign that there is too much bad bacteria and over-fermentation.

Flatulence/Wind is usually due to Chemical reactions due to food like Sprouts, Beans, Cabbage, and Onions, or the over consumption of sugars, Stress

Stress interferes with digestion, and most likely are Food Sensitivities and Allergies.

A Course of Colonic Irrigation can be most helpful to eliminate the bad bacteria and help release the blocked wind.

Our Digestive Health Test will rule out any Food Intolerances, Identify any unfavourable gut bacteria, ( we usually carry between 5-15lbs of stool in our Colon at any one time), test for any Vitamin or Mineral Deficiencies, Candida and more.

Food Intolerance & Digestive Health Analysis. Candida_001

Candida

Bloating, sinus/skin problems, fatigue

Candida Albicans is a naturally occuring yeast species that is found in the large intestine, genital tract, mouth and throat. Under normal conditions it is compatible with good health and usually kept under control by beneficial bacterial flora, the immune system and proper intestinal pH.

However, under certain circumstances, Candida can become pathogenic and may overgrow, leading to a pronounced immunological reaction. This can cause a wide variety of symptoms:

  • fatigue
  • brain fog
  • lack of concentration
  • mood swings
  • joint and muscle aches
  • bloating
  • diarrhoea
  • constipation
  • flatulence
  • local fungal infections including recurrent thrush
  • decreased libid
  • bladder infections
  • menstrual complaints
  • dry itchy skin
  • acne
  • sinus problems

Food Intolerances, frequent antibiotic use and high stress levels are all common culprits which can disrupt the protective bacterial flora of the digestive tract and allow this yeast to easily proliferate. The analytes used in this test can detect antibodies produced against many types of candida species.

Consider our Digestive Health Test which will identify any Food Intolerances and help you eliminate any food causing problems, like wheat, alcohol, sugar etc. The test will also identify the type of Candida present ( albicans is the most common) but there are many others. We also test for any unfavourable bacteria’s,Deficiencies in Vitamins ,Minerals and all essential fatty acids, and much more.
